How to tell if your marketing agency is doing a good job
A good agency can show you what you spent, what it brought in and what they're changing next. If reports are full of clicks and impressions but light on leads and sales, ask questions.
Good signs
- Reports tie spend to leads, sales or revenue
- You know what was changed and why
- They tell you when something isn't working
- You can reach the person running your account
Warning signs
- Reports focus on clicks, impressions or rankings alone
- The same report every month with no new actions
- No access to your own ad or analytics accounts
- Long contracts that are hard to leave
What a useful report shows
- Spend and results against last month and last year
- Cost per lead or sale
- What was tested and what was learned
- What's planned next
If you're not sure
Ask for an independent audit. We offer one free, and we'll tell you honestly if your current setup is in good shape.
FAQs
How long should I give a new agency?
For ads, a couple of months to show clear progress. For SEO, longer, but you should still see the work being done.
Should I switch agencies if results dip?
Not straight away. Ask for an explanation and a plan. A good agency will have both.
